Woodbeater 18" 7mm side-zip 400g - wellingtons to -50°C Gateway

The Woodbeater model from Danish company Gateway1 has a triple insulation system. The first is as much as 5mm of neoprene. The second is as much as 400g of Thinsulate® insulation, and the third is the G1Air Spacer construction, which is a 2mm honeycomb of air gaps where the air heated by our bodies creates an insulating curtain. Thanks to this, the manufacturer declares thermal comfort up to -50 degrees Celsius.

In addition, the off-road wellingtons are characterized by a fairly high instep. The side zipper makes it easy to put on and take off the wellingtons, which is important because the upper is more than 45 cm high. A band of Spandex material and a welt in the back of the upper fit the shoe well to the calf. This model is not only comfortable but also provides thermal comfort, even in extreme conditions.

The structure of the shoe was created to insulate very well from the cold. The outer rubber is a high-quality vulcanized G1@70 system, which is one of the best used in high-quality off-road wellingtons. The construction of the boot is, as we have already written, 5mm of neoprene as the outer insulating layer. Then we have 400g of ThinsulateTM insulation from 3M and another special G1 air spacer construction. This is a 2mm honeycomb structure where air warmed by body heat is kept. It's a great performer, another insulator. The special lining inside the shoe also prevents sweat from condensing and keeps the foot dry.

The upper of the midfoot is so-called Japanese rubber. Three layers of vulcanized rubber, with a special reinforcing rubber mesh embedded in it. Thanks to this solution, the shoes are still flexible but also much more durable. The Lynx ICE Grip system is layers of rubber with special properties. They provide full plasticity and high durability between -45 and 30 degrees Celsius. In addition, the upper has an elastic band made of Spandex material. A special rubber shelf in the back of the sole makes the wellingtons easy to remove. The front part is as much as two layers of reinforced rubber to protect the tip and its upper from the impact of stones, branches and roots.

The weight of the shoe for size 43 is 1280g. The boots have an enlarged wide calf size. The sole is a system of two types of rubber with variable elasticity depending on the temperature. As a result, the sole provides a good grip on the ground regardless of sub-zero temperatures.
